My
Experience Keeping and Breeding Peacocks
Peacocks are very
docile cichlids from Lake Malawi in Africa. Because of this, it is
not a good idea to keep them with the more aggressive Malawi cichlids.
This includes red zebras and Melanochromis auratus. I have
successfully kept them with yellow labs and p socolofi. These mbuna
are not as aggressive.
Peacocks are
omnivores and need a varied diet. I suggest feeding them a mix of
high quality spirulina flakes and frozen krill. Spirulina is an
algae and the colors found in it will bring out the colors in the fish.
If you intend to
breed peacocks, do not keep different breeds in the same tank. They
will cross breed and you will then have a hybrid on your hands that is
detrimental to the hobby. |
